Glee Pays Tribute to Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours”

While the teenage Glee followers may not have fully appreciated the newest episode, the general crowd was thrilled with Tuesday’s airing, which featured numerous songs from Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” album. It is certainly impressive that an album that was released in 1977 has been able to resonate in a much younger, more technologically-focused crowd.

Quite the Buzz

Today, a full day later, “Fleetwood Mac” is still the most searched keyword on Google. The show has revived the admiration that swept the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, exposing some of the more popular songs, like “Dreams,” “Don’t Stop,” and “Go Your Own Way,” to the new generation.

The episode also reminded many viewers of why they fell for the show in the first place. The very first episode of the series featured a very passionate, fresh cover of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.”

A Little Background

In this week’s episode, Kurt mentions that the Fleetwood Mac album was created during various relationship difficulties. Some may call this an understatement; Singer Stevie Nicks and guitarist Lindsay Buckinham were dealing with a breakup, singer Christine McVie and bassist John McVie had just gotten divorced after nearly a decade of marriage, and the band’s founder Mick Fleetwood had recently discovered that his wife had been disloyal.

As Gleeks have discovered, however, the emotional roller coaster certainly resulted in some great music!

Country Music Mania

From deep in my heart I am country music fan. More and more talented young stars are coming out these days with heartfelt ballads. One great young star is Josh Turner. He is very talented musician and thanks to his experienced stage manage Jim Mayo, his live performance is excellent. I recently saw Josh in Primm, NV and the show was excellent. New Kids On the Block and Backstreet Boys Sing on Dancing with the Stars

On Tuesday, The New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys performed two shriek-inducing songs on Dancing with the Stars.
The show featured a piece choreographed by NKOTBSB; a performance of Don’t Turn Out the Lights which had everyone singing and dancing along. The week six elimination took place after the boy bands’ medley of their two hits I Want it That Way and Step By Step.
By the end of the episode, Chris Jericho was eliminated. Instead of dancing his last dance, Jericho shook the judges’ hands, expressing his gratitude for the successful feeling they helped him achieve each week.

Angry Bird, Justin Bieber and Arcade Fire Nominated for Webby Awards

Teenage heartthrob Justin Bieber, Arcade Fire, the Grammy Award winner, and Angry Bird, the addicting mobile game, are three of the top nominees for the Webby Awards, the esteemed international recognition for web content.

Bieber was nominated for his video “Justin Bieber Takes Over Funny or Die,” and Arcade Fire for the video “We Used to Wait.” The nominees for the 15th annual awards were announced yesterday. The winners will be announced on May 3rd, and honored at a gala on June 13th.

The Funny or Die webpage received ten nominations, while the New York Times got eighteen. Angry Birds was nominated as the best of the mobile games category. Other categories include best viral video, best individual performance, comedy, and drama.

Other nominees include Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, Chevy Chase and Meryl Streep, as well as singers Katie Perry and Bob Dylan.

Award organizers have explained that the seemingly random collection of nominees shows how the internet has affected pop culture.

Adele Breaks Madonna’s Record

British singer-songwriter Adele has broken Madonna’s record of female singers to hold the top spot for the most consecutive weeks, with her newest album 21. The album has stayed in the spot for ten weeks now, while Madonna’s 1990 The Immaculate Collection held the spot for nine.

No other album has been able to hold the spot for this long ever since Dire Straits’ Brothers in Arms in 1986.

Last week, 21 sold the most copies since its release. 250,000 units were shifted, which, in other words, means a 65% increase in the market. Many believe this is because of the album’s popularity as a Mother’s Day gift.

Meanwhile, Adele’s Someone Like You has been bumped down to second place on the singles chart, with Jennifer Lopez and rapper Pitbull’s On the Floor moving up to the top.
